Abstract
First paragraph: The informal economy is generally defined as including ¡°legitimately-produced goods and services that do not necessarily follow formal processes such as standards regulations, business registration or operational licenses¡± (FAO, 2017). The Informal Food Economy comprises producers, traders, street vendors and so on who lie outside the formal channels of distribution but who are not necessarily operating illegally. It serves a critical function in numerous countries by facilitating food access and security, while also contributing to the enhancement of choice, dietary improvement, and the generation of household income and employment opportunities (Chikazunga et al, 2007; Wegerif, 2020; Moustier et al, 2023).
